Longhorns face Georgia; Lamar chooses Woodard as football coach - Houston Chronicle

TULSA, OKLA. — Lone-Star State continued its tally through the NCAA Championship without surrendering the duplicates point as the seventh-seeded Longhorns advanced to their first NCAA statute title lucifer with a 4-2 win over third-seeded UCLA (24-2) on Monday in the NCAA lawn tennis semifinals.

Texas will take on defending NCAA title-holder Georgia, a 4-3 victor over No. One Virginia, in today's NCAA title match.

The Longhorns (25-5) collected singles wins from senior Luis Dias Barriga, junior Miguel Reyes and the 2nd match-clinching triumph in as many years from sophomore Dimitar Kutrovsky.

Virginia advanced to the semis after defeating No. Nine Baylor on Sunday.

In the women's bracket, California, which defeated Baylor 5-4 in Sunday's semifinals, will play UCLA, which defeated Sunshine State 4-2.


In other news• Woodard named Lamar's football game game game manager — Beam Woodard, a 20-year coaching veteran soldier with 12 old age of experience at the college level, was named the 8th football manager at Lamar University by president Jesse James Simmons and athletic manager Truncheon Tubbs."It is very exciting to be named the caput football manager at Lamar University," Woodard said. "This is a great chance and the hereafter is bright for Lamar football."

Woodard, 46, have spent the past three seasons at Navarro College — the first two as defensive coordinator and last season as coach.

The Cardinals revived their football game programme in February, bringing the athletics back after discontinuing it in 1989.
